REINVENTING A SPACE - THE MEDITERRANEAN STYLE KITCHEN

When the children are grown, a couple has a wonderful opportunity to re-imagine the heart of their home in a new way. Such was the case with this beautiful Mediterranean style kitchen. The couple wanted to update their kitchen in a modern Mediterranean style, to give it a fresh look and make it the perfect space for entertaining family and friends. The Divine team took the space, and turned it into a delightful sanctuary for the couple and their guests to share.

WARM WOOD CABINETS AND HINTS OF THE SEA

The feel of the Mediterranean style kitchen is captured in the selection of warm Cherry cabinetry and beautifully grained, sandy granite countertops that evoke the feeling of the seaside. The addition of glass-front cabinets, a paneled refrigerator, and open display spaces give the cabinetry a custom feel. Natural light floods in through the ample windows, creating an airy, welcoming appeal. To balance the rich wood tones and light accents of the color palette, the Divine team refreshed the floors with a beautiful honey finish.

A MEILE COFFEE STATION - A GREAT CUP ON DEMAND

For the enjoyment of the couple and their guests, the design included a Miele coffee station at the far end of the kitchen. This allows easy serving during prep times out of the flow of traffic. It’s also within easy reach of the banquette area for enjoying a first cup on quiet mornings. The Miele coffee station is plumbed in much the same manner as through-the-door water and ice, creating a convenient, always-ready service solution.

A COMFORTABLE CORNER WITH BANQUETTE SEATING

At the corner of the kitchen, a light-filled corner banquette seating area provides a welcoming spot for enjoying dinner for two or time with company. The banquette-style seating takes up far less space than a dinette, and keeps a low profile so as not to obscure the view from the floor-to-ceiling prairie windows. This sitting area also provides an elegant spot for guests to enjoy a drink while the main meal is being prepared.

GREAT ENTERTAINING WITH DOUBLE KITCHEN ISLANDS

The wide kitchen space afforded the design team enough room to include double kitchen islands. The square island closest to the counters makes an excellent space for prep and catering for larger occasions, while also housing one of the kitchen’s two ovens. It offers a discreet place to house the microwave oven, while still providing cabinet and drawer space for catering necessities and larger serving pieces. Like the countertops, the main kitchen island is topped in light granite.

LIGHT UP THE ROOM WITH ONYX COUNTERTOPS

The second of the double kitchen islands provides an excellent buffet space during parties. This long island gracefully separates the kitchen from the sitting area at the back of the house. It also holds a surprise.  Topped in onyx, it closely resembles the countertops in the rest of the space; however, because onyx countertops are translucent, the team installed backlighting under the stone for evening entertaining. The result is a delightful, warm glow that creates unique ambiance in the formal kitchen setting.
