Modern modes in an eclectic Brookline abode
Instead of a 1980's retrospective, we're saying hello to the future. And, the future is now. Enter Divine Design Center + Build designer Samantha DeMarco and her team of contractors. The setting? Brookline, Massachusetts (a quiet neighborhood of the greater Boston area). The calling? Convert a couple's kitchens from blah to boo-ya. The journey-ing? Leicht kitchens + cabinets everywhere. The Challenge-ing? Finding a way to combine one couple's love for the eclectic with the clean, sleek lines of a modern kitchen. Ready. Set. Go.
As is the case with many kitchen before-and-afters, this Brookline abode begged for a lighter attitude. Although inklings of retro-cool drifted about with the beside pictured wallpaper, there is no doubt that this house only feigned glamour. For, the closed floor-plans and white appliances of yesterday's past antiquated the general ambiance.Furthermore, the new owners of this not-so humble abode were not just lovers of pops of color, but also of art. Samantha, DDC designer, managed to integrate cheeky nods to the homeowner's passion for visual elements. This foremost important element is relevant through niche shelving from Leicht, which hi-lights a curio of art pieces. Similarly, the couple's daughter talent for stained glass becomes a focal point in the kitchen windows.
In the end, Samantha chose from a wide array of options in designing this new kitchen. For the kitchen cabinets, DeMarco solidified the modern aesthetic through Leicht handle-less and form grip-rail cabinets. Additionally, the cabinet fronts envelop in a frosty-white lacquer.Custom-paneled fronts for the Thermador dishwasher and refrigerator were also applied to this project. In line with the above-mentioned appliances, the clients and their designer opted for Thermador in lieu of filling cooktop, range hood, and double ovens needs.For the nice shelving, and left-hand cabinet finishes, Samantha and her clients decided to break up the white-on-white kitchen design with vertical-grained oak cabinet fronts. The "Stone Oak" finish is a Leicht natural-wood veneer.
