Boston Weston Contemporary Transitional Master Bathroom Suite (Part One)
We dream of three: Feng Shui Powder Bathroom, Weston, MA
As many of you may already know, designing a bathroom is A challenge. While on the surface it may appear otherwise, a well-designed bathroom (or spa) requires so much more than meets the eye. Skillful planning, engineering and execution are major factors that reinforce a successful bathroom remodel --- and of course, special attention to appearances culminate in design. So, it seemed only fitting that Divine Design + Build designer and architect Michael Hanna take the lead on this three-bathroom project in the neighboring town of Weston, Massachusetts. For Michael's experience and dedication in previous bathroom remodels (outside of his expansive portfolio of work) led the clients to the designer at hand. Consequently, Michael worked closely with the owners of this 1980's abode to infuse elements of Asian-inspired themes with the ultra modern.
Our first destination on the three-bathroom tour? The downstairs powder bath.
Like so much of what we see from 1980's and it's not-so-riveting design elements, the before of this powder bath was weighed down with not-so-feng-shui. A bulky vanity, with confusing alternating tile flooring, and a poorly-designed laundry closet led this poor powder room into a lifetime of despair.
However, Michael proposed new, floating vanities with a lighter and brighter bamboo front. Playing off of the nature-inspired architecture deeply rooted in Asian design, Michael integrated custom-designed sliding doors with a similar bamboo finish. The seamless application of the sliding doors, and their ease of use affect the synergy found in the outdoors. Similarly, the sliding doors, which hide the washing and dryer machines, are fitted with tempered glass paneling (or windows) that allude to the bamboo themes found throughout the space via beveled tree-bark esque designs printed on said glass windows.
Furthermore, "Antique White" colored, porcelain tiles that are both textural, yet refined were fitted to the floors of the powder bathroom. The light choice in the tiles allowed the space to feel more flowing, open and larger.
The architectural faucet and sink were hand-selected by Michael and are from Kohler. Similarly, the designer chose to implement elongated sconces on both sides of the mirror, which mimic the bamboo, of which are a thematic accent scene throughout the powder room. The sconces were sourced from Shades of Light and are a modern, architectural touch indicative of the designer who chose them. Beauty is not only in the details, but in the light as well.
