BOSTON SOUTH END APPELTON CONTEMPORARY MODERN KITCHEN
Targeted Engineering Gives Kitchen Design A Lift
When you can’t build out, building up can create a lot more than extra space. The owner of this South Boston penthouse condominium wanted to bring the kitchen out of isolation at the back of the home. To accomplish this, the Divine team turned the small sitting area of the home into a truly comfortable and functional kitchen for cooking and entertaining. The design began by increasing the ceiling height using targeted engineering in several areas, creating the necessary height for comfort and clearance requirements. Once accomplished, the team was able to create a thoughtful layout for the space, incorporating ample cabinetry, prep areas, and full-sized refrigerator and appliances into a space previously large enough for only a few chairs.
SLEEK, TWO-TONE DESIGN
This small kitchen design called for a light, modern design to create a comfortable atmosphere in the space. Capitalizing on the natural light from a pair of large skylights, two-tone cabinets in white and grey wood-grain created interest, and lent the new layout a spacious feel. To bring depth to the color scheme, a coordinating backsplash was created from a single pane of glass, lending the space a sleek finish. To warm up the neutral color palette, the hardwood floors were given a warm, red finish.
AN UPDATED FIREPLACE FOR ENTERTAINMENT
Moving the kitchen allowed the client to open up new entertaining possibilities for the home. Adjacent to the kitchen, the team created a fresh seating solution perfect for entertaining guests. Taking advantage of the updated fireplace as the focal point of the room, the team created an appealing stone surround, topped with a reclaimed wood mantel that echoed the architectural beams already found in the room. A large screen television, previously housed in the newly finished kitchen space, found a new home over the updated fireplace, so guests can enjoy a show as their hosts prepare food or drinks. New furniture selections and a square coffee table tie in to the new color scheme of the space around the fireplace, creating a unified look and beautiful flow for lively entertaining.
