9 Upscale Materials You'll Find in a DOCA Wardrobe

A crucial element in designing your custom DOCA closet is to decide what materials to use. Thankfully, DOCA offers a wide selection of upscale materials to choose from. For a luxury closet, use more than one type of material for your closet. Common upscale designs will use a combination of wood, metal, and glass. Another popular combination will use lacquer, stone, and metal. The materials that your closet design has will depend on your budget, personal tastes, and desired design style.

1. Wood

It is the wood that is often the star of a custom DOCA closet design. There are various upscale options in the materials catalog to choose from. You will commonly see walnut, chestnut, oak, beech, and ebony. These are all woods that are commonly used in upscale and high-end custom interiors. They also look beautiful when used in a closet or wardrobe. Oak and beach are lighter woods that are perfect for a modern or contemporary design. Walnut and chestnut are richer and darker in color. They will look beautiful in a traditional or sophisticated design. Ebony wood looks almost black, making it versatile in how you use it.

Wood is used for every part of the closet. From the doors to the shelving, hanging units, drawers, and back panels. You can also use the same wood to make matching custom furniture pieces, such as an island, TV console, or cabinet.

Ecology

While it is easy to get wrapped up in the beauty of these woods, there is more to talk about than the coloring and graining. DOCA responsibly sources all of its wood. It has a Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), which ensures that all sourced wood comes from sustainably managed forests. In addition, the chain of custody is carefully tracked throughout the entire supply chain line. This ensures that all wood used in making a DOCA custom closet is from the claimed forest. The goal is to encourage responsible forestry management while upholding the highest social, ecological, and ethical standards.

DOCA also holds ISO-9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO-14001 Environmental Management Systems certificates.

2. Steel

Modern interior design embraces the use of metals. Steel is the metal of choice in DOCA custom closets. This is because it is corrosion-resistant, making it durable. Raw steel looks silver in color. It can have a modern and slightly industrial feel. In contrast, you can choose a metal with a finish that changes its color. Black metal is a popular choice because it is a sleek neutral. Gold or rose gold will bring warmth to your closet.

Metal is most often used to frame the closet elements, such as the doors. Thanks to its strength, it will also be used to create hanging rods. Metal handles, hinges, and accessories are also options. Finally, metal shelving, trays, and drawers add durability and a sleek touch to your custom closet.

3. Porcelain

The use of porcelain in custom closet design is not a common one. DOCA custom closets use it to create a unique yet durable look. Modern porcelain is elegant and durable, making it a smart choice for someone who plans to heavily use their closet. In addition, it can mimic the look of stone, making it a perfect alternative for someone who likes the look of a particular stone that isn’t within their budget.

4. Glass

You will see glass as a common feature in custom DOCA closets. This is a unique feature of DOCA closets, as glass is not a common closet material used. While glass can be expensive, it is elegant and durable. There are a few ways you will see glass used in a custom DOCA closet. The most common is with the doors. Large glass panels will extend across the front of the closet. Thanks to the unobstructed view, this lets you see everything within. Glass will also be used as a panel for the front of drawers or as a floating shelf within the closet.

While transparent glass is the most common, it isn’t the only option. Frosted, smoked, or opaque are also available. These are the preferred option for those who do not feel comfortable with clear glass. Smoked is still transparent but darkens the glass, creating a sense of privacy without losing the illusion of being in a large space. Frosted and opaque remove the transparency while adding color.

5. Lacquers

You will typically see lacquer finishes in high end cabinet and closet designs. Lacquer is a two-pot synthetic coating system that creates a smooth, high gloss finish. Unlike painting, lacquer is sprayed onto the closet elements. The leveling properties in the paint smooth and even out, creating an even finish. Several thin layers are applied to get the desired effect. The finished product is one that has an incredibly high gloss finish and luxurious touch. There is also a matte finish option if you prefer something less shiny.

The color possibilities are endless with lacquer. Homeowners that are looking for a modern or bold look will appreciate lacquer. You will typically see lacquered used for the closet doors, wardrobe body, and drawer fronts.

6. Stone

The use of stone is not common in standard closet design. However, you will see it make an appearance in luxury custom closet designs. Your stone options are virtually limitless when it comes to color, type, and design. Because DOCA offers so many possibilities, you are sure to find a stone that suits your taste, closet design, and budget.

You could use the stone to create a custom look for the closet doors. Or it could be used for open shelving. Similar to a backsplash in a custom kitchen, the stone could be the back panel in the closet for a subtle yet elegant addition. Finally, match the stone used in the closet as the top to the custom island or TV console built.

7. Veneer

Using veneer for your custom DOCA closet gives you the ability to choose a rare wood finish that wouldn’t otherwise be available to you. Because DOCA only uses responsibly sourced woods, some woods are unavailable. This is because they are protected or rare. An alternative solution is to use a veneer that creates the look of rare wood without having to cut down trees.

You can choose to use veneer for almost every part of your custom closet. Because it is a thin layer that covers a structural center, it could be used as the finish for your wardrobe, shelves, drawers, trays, and matching island.

8. Leather

The use of leather in a closet design is not a common one. High quality and responsibly sourced leather is an investment. If your closet will see heavy use, then it may not be the best choice. However, if you are gentle on your closet and plan to use it as an accent material, leather can add a truly luxurious touch to your custom DOCA closet design. Choosing a natural color and finish for the leather allows it to shine in all of its natural beauty.

Leather will be used as an accent material in a DOCA closet. It could line the drawers or the dividers. It could be used on the handles of the doors or drawers. Instead of glass, it could be the panel on the front of the drawers.

9. Mirrors

Adding a mirror to your home’s interior design will increase the natural light while creating the illusion of a bigger room. However, for this illusion to work, it needs to be a high quality mirror. Otherwise, you risk tarnishing and distortion detracting from the overall impact. DOCA custom closets can come with large high-quality mirrors for the doors. They could be large seamless panels that blend together to create the illusion of a single mirror. Or it could be several smaller panels framed in metal for a modern look. Another option is to use the mirror as the back panel in the closet. This helps to brighten the closet and make it seem deeper than it really is.
